Configurative Design

A Generative Approach to Digitization, Digitalization, and Digital Transformation in Architectural and Urban Design

Abstract

This lecture was a part of lecture series on computational design, curated by the rijksvastgoedbedrijf, the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations of the Netherlands. This presentation describes the definition, the principles, the goals, and the fundamentals of configurative design as a generative approach to computational design. It makes a distinction between the two polar paradigms of computational design: generative design versus parametric design. Even though the descriptions can be applicable in a few engineering fields, the scope is limited to spatial configuration in architectural and urban design.
